hi, ive checked the website this time and cant find the answer. i apologise if it is !
all i wanted was reassurance before as i have no one to ask.
ive dug out the drive 240mm deep (150mm subbase, 30mm sand and 60mm blocks).
after digging it out there is say a 3 foot square waterlogged clay area (it was tarmac before and had sunk in this area, its right where the front wheel of the car is).
will it be ok once the 150mm subbase is wackered down on top of a geo textile fabric. or do i dig out deeper still.
i just want to do it correct 1st time as i dont want it to sink over time.
the clay is at least 2 foot deeper still, probably a lot more.
cheers
Subbase problem, ive hit clay

thankyou very much for replying.
yes it seems to be the original soakaway location, as the drive slopes to this point. i will dig out as much clay as possible then fill in and wacker down before i put the subbase down as you say.
ive also installed new drainage channels along the side of the house, so hopefully this will help too.
thanks again.

Agree - excavate the soft spots - fill with 80mm down 6F2 stone and compact.
Geotextile then your type1 in 75mm layers.

drive subbase - ive hit clay ???
Posted: Sep 1, 2008 5:24 PM Reply
hi,
im block paving the drive, ive dug out 200mm for the subbase which will be 40mm to dust limestone.
i planned on say 120mm thick subbase, 30mm sand and 50mm blocks.
after digging it all out there is say a 3 foot square clay area which is waterlogged.(it was tarmac before and had sunk where the clay area is now)
question is what do i do about the clay area please, will it be ok once the 120mm subbase is laid on it and wackered down.
even if i dig more out it will still be clay, i dont know what to do, but i want to do it right as i dont want it to dip or sink in time.
any advice is much appreciated, thankyou.
