I want to install a Buschbeck oven (big and heavy). The website says it needs to stand on a 4" mortar foundation. I have laid a patio that has 2" of dry composite, a membrane on top of that then 2" of stone chippings. Would that be just as good or do I have to dig it all out and do the advised base?

Best to put an hardstanding under BBQs so you spread the loading. Flags, or, concrete, not morter.
