Marathan job finished 2 weeks ago ... drive sanded & wacked.
Looked good ... but as soon as it rains, sand is washing out of joints at alarming rate.

each time we drive a car off the drive you can see a clear pattern of where car was .. as rain had dropped onto paviors and washed out an outline of the car.

I bought expensive clay paviors (spaced by moluded nibs) joints are correct width ... but sand is imply not staying put.

I can't keep throwing bags of jointing sand at it ... I have sand dunes forming at the kerbside :-)

There is a 10m x 8m flat area ... just minimum grade, and then a similar size area on a slope to kerb.

Yesterday for example, washed car, and then looked at drive around car sand had been washed out to a depth of about 15mm on each joint ... and that is not hosing or pressure washing the paviors - just run off from the car.

Do I need to apply some sort of stabilizer ?

Job has full sub-base, Terram, sharp sand and weeks of prep work. All edges are restrained.

I wouldn't recomend washing a car on new paving for a few weeks at least until the sand has settled.

Does seem odd why its coming out otherwise though:0 A little is normal.

I am getting huge amounts (too me of sand being washed out) after each spell of rain - the whole area is sand covered.

Here are a couple of pics that show the problem ..

basic whole area covered with sand after any rain:

Space where car parked always stands out clearly after any rain :

wash out of joints after any rain - or even just washing the car:

You need a jointing sand stabiliser. For clay pavers, the usual recommendation is PavSeel (sic) which both binds the sand and seals the paving in one.

PavSeel was distributed by ACM but they were bought out in June and the poroduct is now controlled by some strange-sounding outfit in Wigan, but should still be available from the usual stockists such as Anglo Building Products.

If you can't find it, the main company website lists contact details. I emailed them 3 weeks ago and have not had a reply.
