Been reading up and am going to start to lay a 10m2 patio in my garden. I have removed the old concrete path and uncovered original damaged yorkstone paving. Cant afford to replace it so going down the indian sandstone route.
Have started to dig out the earth in order to put down a 75mm sub-base of crushed stone and a 50mm bed of grit sand. Ive come accross a problem as a drainage pipe runs level with the proposed level of the patio. The old yorkstone slabs were just resting on the pipe. I cant raise the new patio as it wont be level with next doors (shared path to thier garden) and it will take the patio near the injected damp proof course (house built in 1880).
A few issues that I am struggling with and any help would be much appreciated:
1. How do I compact the sub base near the pipe?
2. Is is safe to lay flags on top of the pipe without 100m of sub base and 50mm of grit sand where the pipe is?
3. Anyone else come accross this problem and what have they done?
