Replacing manhole cover - Larger than original

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

Morning all,

Anyone have any advice on replacing a manhole cover with a larger size replacement?

My customer has supplied a larger recessed cover than the original, which would require me to corbel the brickwork on one course outwards by 20mm. Is corbelling outwards as routine as corbelling inwards to enlarge an opening rather tham reduce the size of an opening?

Seems fine to me however is the force put down on the cover then effectively pulls the manhole brickwork outwards rather than inwards, potentially weaker?

What say? Cheers.

As long as you maintain a 600*450 aperture and the cover is well supported etc., I don't see a problem.
