I am going to lay a L-shaped patio with standard 40mm (400 x 400 mm) paving slabs at the corner of my house. In total the area is quite large at 50 sqm, I know how to slope each side away from the house but how do I do the bit in the middle, ie how to slope the corner so that I don't have an edge that could cause people to trip or that the slope is wrong and will hold water. I have already layed the base aggregate and am nearly ready to prepare the top of the base with a sand/cement mix. Before I start I want to be sure I get the level right. Any help appreciated.

Create a diagonal line from internal corner to external corner. Everything on one side of that imaginary line falls one way, and everything on t'other side falls at 90° to the previous.

Thanks,
I assume this is the case even though the width of the patio is different on both sides of the diagonal line.
Also I assume I have a bit of cutting to do, the only problem I foresee is that the slabs I plan to use have a slanted edge. Is it ok to just cut them straight, ie the edges of the cut slabs will be vertical, while the remaining edges and those of the uncut slabs will have a bevelled edge.

You don't need to cut along the diagonal line: just change the direction of fall.

In the diagram above, assess the position of each flag: if most of the flag is on the left side of the imaginary line, then that flag should fall towards the left; if most of the flag is on the right of the imaginary diagonal, then fall should be towards the top. No cutting required!
