My local Jewsons is not known for it's great customer service and you usually have a hard job finding anyone to help you load up as they are all hiding in sheds puffing on roll ups. And when you do ask them for a hand they look at you like you'd just slept with their mum.
All was different last wednesday, popped in for some bits and they were feverishly tidying up and they couldn't have been more helpful, they even wrote me out a yard ticket which they don't usually bother with, not only that ,there was a burger van giving out free burgers!, went into the counter and there was St Johns ambulance nurses taking your blood pressure, ( told them to take mine before i recieved the grand total for my few bits i'd purchased for a more accurate reading), this all seemed very strange and was half expecting to see some fireworks to start going of when i left the yard.
Popped in the next day for another free burger and saw some official looking gents in flash jackets being followed around by a photographer,.... was Jewsons M.D come for an inspection....I guess it will be business as usual come Monday

Have heard TP are looking at some major lay off`s nationwide, there will be a few time and motion studies going on, and a few more helpful yard lads trying to look busy.

Have you noticed how they fill in the yard ticket very slowly while you load the heavy stuff

Loading the heavy stuff? Isn't that what the yard forklifts are for?

Stopped using my local Jewsons, waste of time no help, useless, now use my local "Build Centre", far better service and get the prices I want to pay for the products I use.

It was probably a visit from the new sales director after the outgoing one was given his marching orders..........dodgy dealing, apparently.

i tend to load myself up in BMs ,haven't got the time or inclination to look for idle yard men.
FTR butterfields lads in luton are on the ball with loading,i can drive into their yard and be out again in 5 minutes flat, ticket and all
dandys are next but they can have very bad off days on occasion

I do the same, Tony. Just drive up to whatever it is and start loading, they amble up just as you're finishing, usually. Jewsons and Build Center are the worst round here by miles. Last time I was in Jewson I had to find the pimply youth hiding in his hut, he had no idea what I was talking about (it was small bags of bitmac for making good to a pavement) and stopped on the walk over to take a call on his mobile. I was aghast and told him, "make your calls on your time, not mine, I've got work to do." He looked like I'd slapped him.

The TP's round here (Reading, Tilehurst & Maidenhead) are all pretty good, but Meakin (Reading & Maidenhead) are excellent. The yard lads come into the shop, earwig what you've ordered (pay first, ticket after) and start loading up a pallet with your stuff while you're paying. You can be in and out in minutes. Unlike Jewson, which always seems to be a 30 minute experience!

covers locally are pretty good, but then i'm on first name terms with the manager, so it helps. they also respect customer loyalty, so discounts can be v g:D
