Hi,
I am about to lay an approx. 3 m deep x 6 m wideflag stone pation which needs to drain towards the house. (the rest of the garden is higher and there are wall around 3 sides of the patio) 3 meters of the 6 m width are against the back of the house, the rest is butting up to an existing patio. I thought I could have a french drain (just 15 cm of gravel) against the house and between the two patios and let the water soak away. Reading the site I am now worried that I need to have a 'propper' drain, e.g. a linear drain leading alongside the house towards a drain in the corner. Is this necessary? I have also been reading about identifying the dpc, but since the house is build in 1860 and has a cement plinth, I am not sure it has one. Would there be a dpc and how do I identify it?
Many thanks
Gitta
