Hello. I'm no expert wehn it comes to drainage and since lifting my patio flags at the rear of my house to lay some decking I've found that the area is full of clay. I've dug into the clay over 2 feet but can't seem to find any decent soil for drainage.
The patio never seemed to struggle with water when there was flags down but since I have lifted the flags water just does not go.
The area I'm installing my decking in is roughly 14ft X 14ft.
What I'm wondering is, & please excuse my lack of technical terms here, can I install some drainage pipes & break these into the main soil drain. Just to the side of where I am laying the decking there is a manhole cover which is the access to our soil drain. Would it be ok to route rain water into this system and what equipment would i require to do it? IE pipes, connections.
Also, what would be the most suitable method to ensure no debris from the pipes was to end up in the soil drain.

many thanks for any help. It is greatly appreciated.
Jonny.

B&Q do a 25m length of perforated drain. Thinking I should hopefully be able to use this and break into the main foul drain. Guessing If I dig my trench with a uniform gradient down towards the fould drain & then surround the perforated drain with gravel it should help releive some of the surface water.

Cheers for the info & reply.

25m length? Blimey, how are you going to get that home? Seriously, see main site as stated above as there is loads of useful advice there.
