Patio Drainage

I have just constructed a garden wall which is 35M in length and 1M high and returns back at both ends to the side of a house. One end of the patio area is also raised. I need to provide drainage so that surface water will run away from the house and the surrounding wall. I have already installed a 100mm pipe at one end of the patio that will enable surface water to drain into an existing ditch. Q Should I have a fall towards the middle of the patio from both the house and the wall or can I install surface water drains nearer to the external brick wall? Also should I provide additional surface drainage for the raised area or could I create a fall and let it drain on to the lower patio area.

Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure of your layout, from that description. If you create fall on the paving towrads the centre of the patio, then you'll need a gully in the centre - there's nowt wrong with doing that - but when you mention the possible installation of "drains" nearer the "external wall" and then move on to raised areas and lower patios, I lose the plot completely. Can you provide me with a sketch?

Sometimes, I have to read things a number of times to make sure I'm not missing something obvioous. I think may folk sort of assume that you're famiuliar with their garden/drivway, and start describing things as being 'next to the flower bed' or 'near the garage', when you've no idea what their property looks like!

One of my favourites, and there's hardly a week goes past without it making an appearance is "I want a new driveway - what should I choose?" and the second most popular request - "I had my drive done and it's not right. What should I do?"
