Strange request, don't even know if such things are available, or even free.

We are looking for an [iron?] manhole cover to do some bonding tests. We can buy a new one but need to run tests on one that's been used/trafficked/got dirty and grubby.

Can you help?

Thanks.

Where there's a demolition site there is bound to be a scrap bin, just ask it might cost a couple of quid. scrap yard maybe, council yard, or reclaimed yard.

Dammit. Left two 40 ton broken manhole covers at site last week. Typical - but you wouldn't have liked the postage cost!!

Here's TWO in Middlesex, Simeon -- up for grabs for only 99p if you go and collect it.

(the comment about "used temporarily to stop children falling down holes" makes me laugh out loud -- did they remove them so the children WOULD fall down the holes?)

Sorry Sim, I meant to get back to you about this and it completely slipped my mind. I emailed a handful of civils contractor in and around your part of the world, but never heard anything, so I planned to suggest you try a local scrap yard, as that's were most of them end up.

The suggestion to ask your local Highway's Dept is also a good idea, as they (or their nominated term contractor) will have ultimate responsibility for replacing worn/damaged covers.
