I had a lovely block paving driveway laid last year. Recently I've noticed tyre marks from people using it to turn round in - right up to the front door!

These are difficult to remove, so is there a realistic way to prevent these annoying people from getting onto the driveway in the first place? I've seen parking bollards advertised, but these are really for public parking rather than private driveways. Is there a more attractive measure?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

There are plenty of 'residential grade' telescopic bollards that are used primarily as anti-theft devices, but would function perfectly well as 'anti-turning' gizmos.

Here's one crowd that are fairly local to me....

failing summat like this
Image you could do the bollards or the cheaper plastic chain link.
my neighbour had his drive opened out to 7 m each side and he gets taxis pulling right up to his bay window, there seems to be no easy answer to this without inconveniencing yourself in the process
here is a link for chains
good luck

A stinger device laid across the drive entrance should do the trick!

Hi Ronnie

Just notice Argos have got "Autolok Compact Removable Post" reduced half price to £24.99 !

I think you would struggle to find a cheaper removable post if you wanted to go down that route ?

Thanks chaps - grateful for all your replies. Prefer LLL's illustrated solution myself, but my wife said this may infringe on civil liberties/human rights or some such nonsense.

I've had a quote from ATG who Tony mentioned - £384.25 (including fitting) for their manual telescopic bollard which folds down neatly out of sight into the driveway. Expensive, but probably worth it if it keeps the bu**ers off.

I guess the alternative is to live with it, but to have the bricks sealed. So 2 further questions for anyone:

1. Would sealing enable future tyre marks to be cleaned off easily
2. The existing tyre marks would need to be cleaned off first. Has anyone yet come up with an efficient way of doing this? (So far I've heard of using a pressure washer, a pencil eraser, or treading in (unused) cat litter over the affected area!)

Whaaaaatt! I Think someone is pulling your leg. Sealer will work to some degree depending on the type of finish the sealant provides. Give the pressure washer a try or failing that there's a fella on this site called R&A who is a bit of a genius when it comes to cleaning look him up and see what he says.
Can't see it from my house

Ronnie,
Pressure washing would get the tyre marks off no problem, might need a chemical/detergent though. A hot water washer would be better then cold, but cold will do it, best using someone like myself with the right equipment as to a homebase/B&Q bought £49.00 Karcher though.
As far as the other suggestions, pencil eraser NO
Cat litter, yes this does work on some stains needs to be of a high clay content, so a cheap varity really but wouldn't work with the tyre marks sorry. As far as sealing goes, the surface will have to be cleaned first, or you will just be sealing in the tyre marks, dirt etc.

We lived at the end of a dead end when I was a kid.

After someone broke into his truck and stole a CB radio, my father used a baseball bat to ward off would-be turn-arounders. :D
