Paving on conrete - Can you put pavers on a concrete base

Hello,

I've got a 5x5m patio that's got a concrete base with slabs laid on top. The slabs have come off nicely, so I thought that I could make a new patio by mortaring block pavers onto the concrete base. Is this stupid? Am I overlooking something?

If it's not stupid - what should I use to fill the gaps between the pavers?

I'm not that keen on the idea of breaking up and getting rid of all of that concrete...
