Hi again.
I mentioned in an earlier post that i intend to lay block paviours around all outer edges of my garden as a mowing strip but i need a little advise.
Would it be ok to lay them tight up to a retaining wall thet has been back filled with 20mm limestone chippings with approx 4"soil on top?
I was intending to lay a concrete strip 250mm wide by 75mm thick tight up to wall to lay paviours on.The chippings come out from wall around 400mm ish.Opinions please.

The limestone has been put there obviously for drainage and i was a little worried that if i lay paviours on top of this and there was any movement in the 20mm limestone that it may cause probs.
Phrehaps i am fretting too much. :)
cheers sean.

whoa!
i would remove any lose soil or aggregate first
you want your concrete to sit on subsoil at the minimum sean,
sorry didnt quite follow your drift there :;):

The wall has been filled to a depth of around 4ft with 20mm limestone,so if i remove all the soil that is sitting on top of this and then lay my concrete strip would this be acceptable?Or would i be better just keeping the mowing strip back off the wall away from the drainage material?

Lay a strip of geo-textile over the gravel backfill. Assuming your mowing strip is to be 100mm wide, use summat like 300mm wide strip and make sure the blocks are on min 100mm depth of good concrete. This will help the structure bridge and slight settlement, but if there is significant settlement, nothing will stop the blocks/mowing strip going down with it.

Thanks for info tony.I was intending using block pavings but sticking out from wall length ways 200mm i think they are (standard block paving brick) but like i say the witdth of the void that has been back filled is around 400mm so do you think i need to bridge the full 400mm to make it less likely to sink?

I have been given a price of £70.00 per pack for standard blocks, how much more would clays be? I thought if i got a darkish coloured block the fading would be less noticeable.
