I am thinking of paving my driveway, front and back of the house, reason is my next door neighbour did his and looked really nice, i have one problem thou i noticed how it was done, they got a mini digger levelled the ground then compated it then layed soft yellowish sand onto and then layed the bricks.
6 months later the weeds are starting to com thru.
So my questions is before we lay a layer of saoft sand can i cover the area with a lining of membrane to stop the weeds from coming thru, but then again what happens if it rains where will all the water go.
Any ideas
New Paving
If they'd laid a sub-base or crushed rock, then there'd be no weeds coming through!
Although a membrane is often claimed to prevent weeds on elemental pavements, it cannot stop weeds settling into the pavement and growing in the joints. However, if you follow the advice given on this site, including laying a proper sub-base, keeping the sand bedding to no more than 50mm, and using a sealant after 6 months or so, you can have a superb weed-free pavement that will be the envy of your neighbour. :)
