Suppliers of chippings

Hi,

I hope you can help me!! I'm trying to find a supplier of red granite chippings to b scattered on a tarmac drive. Have tried Jewson & Huws Gray Fitock to no avail.
Please help!

Has the tarmac already been installed or are you sourcing them for a contractor. The chippings must be done at the same time as the tarmac when its warm and if your contractor can't or won't get these for you then he's an idiot who should be shot. Just hazarding a guess I could be way off the mark sorry.

To bond into the [hot] tarmac surface, the chippings need to be resin-coated, otherwise they will just pop out in due course.

We've done a few tarmac drives with these 10mm or so cotswold chips to get rid of the blackness - I'm on the fence as to whether I like the effect or not!

Hi,

The tarmac is due to be laid in 2weeks. The contractor can't get them in a small enough quantity -we only need a ton. All the local builders merchants have to special order them and have to have a full load. So any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Tell your contractor to pull his finger out. If you need a ton then your drive is pretty big which means your spending a lot of money. In my experience most tarmac plants have a stockpile of topdress aggregates don't see why it's so difficult to get hold of them maybe once his lorry is full with tarmac he has no other means of transporting them like a trailer or a smaller lorry. Would you settle for another colour that is available from a local BM.

I'm not sure where is the nearest batch plant to Pwllheli, but getting red chips from the Halkyn plant shouldn't be a problem. A tonne goes helluva long way: we normally reckon on 300-1,000g per m², which, at the heaver coverage means a tonne would be spread over an area of 1,000m²
