Was talking to a mate the other day and he told me a story that was either absolute genius or a load of sh*te goes a little something like this. A couple of years ago when they were installing the new gas network in belfast gypsies were going around offering to connect people for a one off charge with free gas for 5 years. What they were doing was burying a bottle in the driveway connecting it to the house and scarpering. Mate says his gran did it and wondered if the gas company had cut her off when it ran out. Got them out they said they had no knowledge of her and they dug up her gas bottle straight away said they'd seen it all before. Quite a novel way to scam someone but is it true or an urban myth. ???
Can't see it from my house

sounds like one of the mickeys mouser tricks :)
i had a mate over from norway the weekend and he had an brand new jacket on ,when i quizzed him about it he said he was lucky enough to meet an italian representative of giorgio armani in the car park of torp airport :(
sound familiar????
we were doing a job in harpenden last year and some italian guy pulls up in an alfa romeo with italian plates asking in pidgin english the way to luton airport(5 miles away) anyway i let the mixerman give him directions and i carried on working
10 minutes later pete comes around the back with 2 *leather * jackets
"i had a right result there" he says" that guy is a rep for armani and he has just done an exhibition in london and he needed some money for duty frees at the airport= got 2 leather coats for £120!!!"
for leather read leatherette and the jackets had a tag in that says "reportage"
guess what the tag in the tarje the norwegian's jacket read????

yup you guessed it " reportage"

have scams will travel
LLL ???

When i was younger a bloke pulled over in a beemer saying he had just left a company and had some leftover jewellery, he offered to sell me this gold chain for a fiver so i snapped it up...it faded after a couple of weeks.

And i had the leather jacket one a couple of weeks ago...told him where to go though.

man came on site selling portable TVs for a silly price. my mate bought two as they were a bargain. when he got home and took them out of the box, they were just the shells with bricks inside to weight them. Also weve all seen the carpet man whos got some large remnants left after doing a job. you buy one for the bedroom only to find its a fraction of the size he told you.

Was offered kitchen knives in a sort of briefcase thing once, declined that. Was also offered a digital camcorder - looked good enough on the box but wouldnt let us open it to see whats inside, he was promptly told where to go. Although bought some dvds today from a guy that just goes around all the sites in Edinburgh selling them

Where do all these generators/power tools come from that the Irish speaking lads have piled in their hi-cube transit vans come from? We get about one a week calling at our yard, if we are unfortunate enough to be there during the day.

A friend of mine used to work for a company that sold speakers out of the back of a van. They made the speakers out of plywood and car speakers and then carpeted them and put a flash badge on them.

One day he was in Leeds and he met a student who he persuaded to go and meet his bank manager and extend his overdraft by GBP1200 so he could take my mate up on this 'bargain'.

The usual source for tools and such being sold on-site here (other than from legit firms like Hilti and such) is from some other poor bastard's worksite down the road who've had all their gear nicked.
