Well I started it last December excavating abit here and there and recently I've really been able to throw some time at it. I've still got the manhole cover to sort out and a small area near the front bay but other than that it's done!
The whole thing took 37 tonnes of MOT due to the amount of back filled sand under the original driveway. 5 tonnes of sand and 5 packs of bricks...I've yet to add up the bills but I reckon it will be near to £3k. Not sure what it would cost to pay somebody to do it but I think its a half decent job for a 2nd time DIYer.
I went wrong in one place instead of doing rows and keeping it straight i did one side of the drive and then moved across the top half creating and L shape...this meant that by the time I got to the bottom it wasn't quite straight. Some of a the gaps down near the left hand gate post are slightly wider that I wanted but nobody has noticed it. The rest is fine though.

And a million hours of working on my own because nobody else would help created this...

i see you put halves in to avoid darts which is good
the only thing i could point out is a couple of straight joints in the band course near the back end
but overall it looks a pro job

Not Blackpool...it's St Annes! Literally about half a mile from Blackpool. What gave it away?
After reading all about the subject on this website and in Driveways, Paths and Patios book I believe anything less than a quarter brick doesn't comply with British Standards does it? There are 2 professionally laid drives nearby that have gone down in the last month and they both have tiny darts and slithers of bricks. I avoided small darts where I thought necessary but I thought it might be ok where traffic won't be driving on it even though at the back end I put some triangles in which ideally shouldnt be there. Best bit about DIY though is if it becomes a problem I can fix it myself.
I presume straight joints means where 2 bricks have their joints next to the neighbouring courses joint?
I think I might also have done the herringbone pattern the wrong way but that's being really picky...doubt anybody but the most eagle eyed would spot that one.
my uncle lives near the football ground in blackpool and all the walls have funny brick piers like that
he used to take me to some wild west place near preston,bit like th high chaparal but with everyone dressed up as cowboys

That was the Royal Euxton place, LLL. I have a really embarrassing photo from the 1970s of two of my sisters visiting there wearing hot-pants. They'd have been 8-10 years old - should I be admitting this??? - and it's one of those fambly photos they both hate and would pay good money to see destroyed.
looked on multimap boss ,not sure if it was that far,about a 20 minute drive south ish out of blackpool,people all dressed up as cowboys etc and log cabins and a provisions store

I don't mind clambering into foul manholes to clear a blockage, and I've even been known to set foot in Old Trafford (but only when Liverpool go there for the three points), but I absolutely draw the line at Country & Western Music. Some things are just too awful to contemplate!
