Here's a thought: given the massive variation in sands used for mortars throughout Britain and Ireland, how about creating a visual encyclopaedia of mortar colours?
If you're knocking-up any mortar in the next few weeks and happen to have a digi camera with you, photo the starting sand, the finished (plastic) mix, and, ideally, the mortar when cured in a week or so. Let me know the mix ratio, what type or sand (or where you go it) and I'll upload the results onto a separate page on the main website.
