i beg to differ squire
you cannot tell me that topsoil will be the same weight as ballast or MOT for a cubic metre?
i reckon topsoil depending on moisture to be about 1.4 t per cube
giving a total of 2.205 tonnes for this job
i would suck it and see and get 2 tonnes and see how far that goes
obviously moisture content will make a difference also the organic make up will affect the weight
remeber mark that the BM's bulk bags rarely weigh 1 tonne
mostly about .85 tonne
cheers fellas

Top soil is usually calculated as having a density of 1.45 T per m³ (see this bit ) so seeing as you have 1.6m³ you'll need around 2.3 tonnes. As LLL says, wet soil is denser than dry, but not by as much as you might think - remember, water has a density of 1T/m³, which is why soil sinks in water.

Sorry about that. Sure theres never any harm in having a bit of extra topsoil, eh? :p
i never guess ,just put it in a calculator and work it out, however squire its better to try and get it wrong once, than never try at all
