i have compacted hardcore base and spread sand 50mm. i have been advised to spot the slabs with mortar. should i compact the sand? i am wondering if the spotting (dabs on corner and centre) will create high spots and leave the slab vulnerable to cracking? it is a garden patio and will not be subject to overly heavy traffic.

This is the first message I've seen since getting back from a fortnight's training in Ireland and what a surprise! The same owld "I can't be arsed to read anything" disease that bores me senseless. Have you actually read any of the main site? The FAQs perhaps??
