Help with tarmac driveway

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi,

I am new here and am finding it hard to get quotes for tarmac driveways in Poole/Dorset. Does anyone have any recommendations in this area? We have a single width driveway that runs down the side of our house, a front lawn (which is now stones) is to the right. We want the whole of the front tarmaced (including the area to the right) so we have a little area to tuck another car into.

Got a quote for Block Paving at £9.5K so that is clearly out.

Any advice?

It's difficult to judge without seeing it but based on £50-£110 psm (the range of my bp jobs over the last year) your job should not be more than about £2500.

Are you sure it's only 25m2? Seems a bit small for two cars? Do you have a photo?

We had two manhole covers and he was providing new man-hole covers to blend in to the brickwork etc.

Price was 6k if I agreed to be a "showhome" for 3 weeks but even 6k is way too much. I was hoping to get the driveway doen for £1500 - £2000. Is that realistic?

30 meter square maximum.

I will not go with this quote. I just want to know how much a decent tarmac job would cost and who is reputable in my area. I'll keep searching.

tad on the low side for a *quality* job
its still going to involve guys getting all the plant out etc etc
i would have guessed about £2-2.5 k

Anglian - they of the "think of a number and quadruple it" school of pricing-up! I wish I had the nerve to price-up work that way!

Amazing, after filling in their online survey "Were you happy with your quote" and being honest saying they were a complete rip-off etc. I received a phonecall saying they thought my comments were not justified. I told them they were and didn't know how they stayed in business. 2 minutes later, the guy was offering to do it for 4.5k!!! Dropped 5k in less than 5 minutes on the phone. Told him no anyway :p

Scott007, you might want to consider a gravel drive with a small paved threshold to stop the gravel migrating off the drive. That will almost certainly be acheivable with your budget.
