Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi,

This is my first post on this site. I hope someone can help me out.

I am designing a new playground about 35 x 40m. I am wanting the blacktop to be permeable and the water to be naturally discharged into the ground underneath. The geotechnical report suggests that this site would be ideal for natural soakaway.

If anyone has any ideas where i can get a spec for the blacktop in question and how the construction make up would be then that would be great!

Cheers :)

You should contact the material suppliers, such as, f'rinstance, Bardon Aggs, Tarmac plc, etc. They will advise on what's available locally, at what cost, and what their recommended spec might be.

It's worth mentioning that playgrounds have to use safety surfacing in areas where accidental falls are possible. Bitmac, whether it's permeable or not, doesn't have the necessary bounceability to render it suitable for use in play areas. You would be ok to use it away from play items, but beneath and around the slides, swings and roundybouts, you *must* use safety surfacing.
