As LLL says branch lines should enter at an angle and with the flow of the main line.
Older clay systems (not all) would normally have a collar leaving the chamber and a spigot entering.
Run a level across the frame and dip the invert
Interceptor traps should be on the outlet of a chamber and failing that take a pee, and see which way it flows
You may get extra points for that one !
