Over pavement drainage - Garage rainwater drainage

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

I am having a garage built to the rear of my property, and access is from the road that runs to the rear. The garage will be approx 400mm from the pavement, and I was wondering if I can discharge my rainwater across the footpath, in a similar way to old terraced properties. The building inspector has sugested this as a possiblity. I cannot drain to my existing drainage as that is approx 20m away with very shallow manholes. The soil is clay which will make a soakaway difficult. I was thinking of using the fluted concrete drainage channels as on the website, but I have not found a manufacture.
Any advice would be welcome.

If the BCO is saying it's acceptable to discharge SW across the public footpath, get it in writing and go for it!

Up until ma decade or so ago, this wouldn't have been an issue, but over recent years, discharging surface water onto a public highway has been frowned upon by some LAs for what seem to be silly legalistic reasons. However, if your BCO is happy with the arrangement, then as an agent of the LA, it's as good an answer as you could possibly hope for.

Get it installed before s/he can change their mind!
