Honest, I have checked on the Forum but can't find a definite answer!

I have got to re-point a 35sqm patio. It has been down for 6 years and was pointed with a dry mixture which didn't set very well, and has now crumbled away. Because the joints will not be very clean, can I use Romex or Easipoint (the joints are ok ie 5mm wide and 25-30mm deep), or should I use a mortar?

Many thanks.

romex beats handpointing on most (not all ) jobs
all depends on whether its a love job or one you are getting paid for really

Two different products. Easipoint is easier to get hold of, it seems, and is a cement-based mortar in the traditional style. Once you've got the hang of the "gun" it's very quick, clean and effective. Romex Easy is a resin-based product and, theoretically, even easier to install as it's swept into the joints. However, at only 5mm wide, you are right down at the lower end of what's suitable. Shouldn't be a problem for a patio, but I;d be wary if this was a driveway or comercial pavement.

Straightforward Class II mortar is cheap and it works for a while, but it's incredibly time-consuming and it *always* cracks.

If you're reasonably handy at DIY, the Easipoint would be a good choice, but if you're cack-handed in any way, then Romex Easy (or any similar brush-in resin-based jointing material that isn't GeoFix) would be the way to go.

Errr...no - it needs to be done in one operation. 35 square metres could take as long as a whole hour!!
