am based in the north east and am trying to locate a supplier of some unusual shaped pavers...

http://www.pavingexpert.com/blocks03.htm

there is a picture of them on this page above under the heading - choosing shape (1st picture - top right hand side)
they are approx 16 sided and look like a crinkle cut chip and very thick as well approx 3.5-4 inches thick...

any ideas?

It's a dentate or tessellated block, aka a W block, a Rima block, a shaped block and probably a host of other names. They are popular on the continent, but, for historical reasons, they've never been widely used in Britain or Ireland, although they are used on Ikea stores.

They could be manufactured obver here, if a large enough order was to be placed, but they are not a standard item, so you won;t find them in a BM's yard. There's a chance one of the manufacturers might have a pallet or two brought over from Holland or Germany for 'research purposes', or there might be a contractor with a pallet or two left over from a job on an Ikea or Lidl, but it'd be hell of a job tracking them down.

As Matthew said, they were manufactured, at one time, by BDC, a company that was bought out by RMC in the late 90s, and which has itself since been bought out by Cemex. If you wanted a reasonable quantity, by which I mean 100+m², Cemex (or another manufacturer) would be able to source them from one of their overseas plants, but if it's just a handful for repairs, then you're buggered (technical term!)

I could get you about 10000 square feet of those puppies from America if you have a lot of money, and a lot of patience :)
