I'm just about to lay a rased patio 10m x 10m approx in bradstone natural stone slabs.

My brother recently had a similar job done and his was layed on 100mm sub base, then a sand and cement screed layer and then on a mortar bed.

Is the screed layer necessary or can the mortar bed be laid directly on the sub base. My contractor rckons this would be fine but will hapily do whatever i want - at a price. The bradstone web site recommends the screed layer but this web site seems not to.

Thanks.
