I have 13 tonnes of type 1 arriving tomorrow, and the outlook for the next few days is showers, should I hold off compacting it?

No - get it compacted as soon as poss. The rain really won't do it any harm, but if you leave it loose, the stone will 'soak up' some of the rain, the moisture content will rise, and it becomes more difficult to compact properly.
If you get it spread, levelled and compacted quickly, the rain will actually help 'wash through' any fines, giving an even more stable sub-base.
