The paths on the village recreation ground have become weed infested. On the less popular bits the weeds meet in the middle! The paths are about one metre wide, with wooden edging. The surface is compacted fine gravel. Is there any way of clearing the weeds and cleaning up the paths?. The only way I can think of is to somehow remove the top layer of the path including the weeds and then make up the path with fresh gravel.

If the path is infested with moss and weeds id killl off the weeds first with sodium chlorate or glyphosate or something similar then use dichlorophen to kill the moss. You cant apply the 2 chemicals at the same time, id wait about a week between applying them. If it is heavily infested, id give it 2 applications. You could take out about 50mm of the old stuff, then lay some terram and then put fresh gravel ontop. I would maybe put some new edging in too if it is a state of disrepair
