Where do people get their romex from???!??

Heard about Banister hall garden centre nr preston but cannot find anything for them on the web.

If people could provide contact details for a supplier It would be really appreciated.

There's still no resolution to the Romex distribution debacle. I met with the licensed British mainland distributors on Tuesday of last week, and am disappointed to report that nothing has been sorted out, although they hope to have some idea of what will happen vis-a-vis distribution in a week or two. In the meantime, would-be customers for Romex are left having to buy via mail order from Preston or collect from Ruscrete in Southampton. Those in Ireland fare much better as supply just isn't a problem on that side of the water.

For contractors that can handle 600kg at a time, I'm starting to recommend they switch to GftK 840 supplied by NCC in Chorley. This is the same as, if not better, than Romex Easy, but NCC for the moment are only able to supply full pallets which have 24 of the 25kg containers, but as buying in bulk brings price advantages, and given that the stuff has a good shelf life, this shouldn't be too much of a problem for those contractors getting through 5-10 packs of Romex per patio.

GftK also provide a full range of high-strength epoxy mortars for all categories of pavements, from patios right up to city centre bus lanes and the like.

Dan - I've a rough idea but I don't want to commit myself, as the price intimated to me is negotiable, apparently. All I can say is that it's been priced to be slightly cheaper than Romex.

I got my 30 tubs of Romex (£ = ouch!) from Ruscrete in Southampton, although there is a supplier in Blackpool I spoke to who may be nearer for you Nemey. Simply do a google search on "romex blackpool" (and click I'm feeling lucky) and that will link you to them via ebay ...

As an aside, for a quick giggle type "french military victories" into google and hit "'i'm feeling lucky"

I emailed Romex in Germany for some help with this and they gave me someone's mobile phone number. Didn't exactly fill me with confidence. What if you're doing a job and come up short?! I know the answer to that one, by the way :p

I haven't got anywhere to store a pallet-load of the stuff, that's for sure. And if I recall it has a shelf-life, doesn't it?

The shelf-life of the new stuff (the VdW 840) is about 18 months.

The distributor is going to see how it sells, and, if it proves to be as popular as the Romex Easy, they'll make it available via other outlets in single pack quantities, but it could be next year before they get around to that.

Meanwhile, every Travis Perkins in the country sells pallet loads of bleeding Pavefix...

Can't imagine why this is such a problem ... unless the Germans won't offer enough of a discount to make it interesting for the 'big boys'.

The problem is the Romex selling rights. One company owns the UK and RoI rights, but doesn't have an effective distribution network in mainland Britain. I've been working with them for the past 15 months trying to get summat sorted, but it's just not happening.

I met with them again at EWx a fortnight ago, and they have gone away to have a think about their position. Annoyingly, another company, with an excellent distribution network, wants to sell the Romex products, but can't reach a deal with the existing license owner.

Sometimes, superb products are completely bollixed by poor marketing deals.

i suppose its like when you get a boxer like joe calzaghe ,who is a great boxer but cannot get the big fights because of tv,promotional and political reasons
i have used romex 3 times now and am very very happy with the results,but as stated on a separate thread, have no storage for pallets of stuff
what we (by this i mean builders= generically) need is to get decent products into builders merchants nationwide.
