hi, been a while since i was on here last. anyway im currently (or should i say finaly) sorting the garden out and the wife has decided she wants red tarmac paths around the rear garden, my question is had this got to be laid with a compaction roller or can it be done with a wacker plate as i already have one? also weres is the best place in south east to purchase tarmac?

thanks again marc,

Can you get a roller into the back yard?

The roller will provide superior results, but it is handy to have the plate around as the roller won't be able to hit everything, esp around the house.

You laid tarmac before? Red is very expensive, wouldn't want to see it wasted!

...and red in small quantities is horrendously expensive!

Two options: if someone local is having red laid, get them to order a few tonnes extra for yourself, or, failing that, lay black and then coat it with summat like Watco Red Top to make it look as though it's red mac.
