Not got a clue - take 2!!!! - Real yorkshire stone slabs

Thanks LLL and TC for your valuable comments on my fist post.
As you say, the cost of the slabs doesn’t make any difference to the laying costs, which is why I’ve posted a new topic…. (You’re all thinking this bloke’s nuts!!)

I have come to the conclusion there aint no substitute for real Yorkstone, and consequently am prepared to add £1000 to the overall cost of my patio. After all, I don’t plan top move again, and have already spent a lot of money on the gaff!!
As it is a 50’s built house, new cut stone will look better that reclaimed, and am rather taken by the Priory slabs at Stonepave, which at £41 + vat including delivery I thought was about as cheap I’m likely to find!! (Any comments on the quality of their stone?)

However I did find a company called The Stone-Paving-Merchant who quote £36 + vat on their website!! Not sure what they’re like, but they don’t have a link on here, so maybe worth steering clear?

One last question – when they say random x random sizes, are the individual sizes fairly consistent, so you can logical assemble them into 38 square metres of patio??
Not too sure if 600 or 450 x random is more suitable to modern styles?

Can you provide links for these products? I'm not familiar with the second crowd, but StonePave have a good rep: not aware of this "Priory" stone, though - unless they've changed the name recently.

I would NOT buy from that Stone Merchant twonk. He robbed pages from my website and posted them on his own website: text, drawings and photographs - everything bar my name and my copyright mark. A couple of weeks ago I had to get Trading Standards in Rochdale to have a word with him. I'm also on the point of instructing my lawyer to sue him for theft, breach of copyright and plagiarism.

If he'll rip off my website, you have to ask whether he'll rip off you, too.

Re the StonePave site - maybe I'm getting a different site, but there is no 'picture in the middle': it's a transition gallery (a fancy slide show)

Fair enough! I don’t like people like that, so wont be going there!
As for www.stonepave.com, their new yorkstone is called Priory, and you can probably see it on the site www.bingleystone.com which I think is their trading name?

Anyway, would you say £41.06 per m2 delivered is a good price?

As for going for Yorkstone, is it regarded as the best stone for patios?
Lastly – could you advise regards my question on my original post regards patterns?

I recently laid some real yorkstone for a customer. What a nightmare. Not one stone was the same size, they were all different in width and length, and thickness, some being nearly 3inches thick!!
The customer ordered them as they could not find an alternative, yet in their garden was a sample of indian sandstone, a 300mm square slab, that was such a close match, we kept picking it up to try and lay it confusing it with the yorkstone.
I personally would not lay it, or advocate buying it as it is not particularly environmentally friendly blasting hillsides in yorkshire apart to get at it.
If you MUST buy it, ensure it is from a reputable source, and that the stone sizes are all the same.

Ok then, what's the best fake then? Stonemarket/Bradstone? If it really is that close and it will still last a good few years, I would rather save myself £10 m2!!!

Judging from your location (not a million miles from me!), your best bet is to have a look at some indian sandstone at kings langley builders merchants. I believe they have a branch in Watford, or try King acre at Bulbourne in Tring, next to Wyevale garden centre
