I need a little guidance with what base to use with my patio. In the past i've always done half assed jobs with my patio laying but now i've got a new house & a blank canvas out back i've decided to do it properly.
I've dug out the area required (3.8m x 3.8m) and constructed a wooden frame which is 5" deep. The soil is already a 50/50 mix of hardcore & solid clay which i've compacted right down to the bottom of the wooden frame. Next i've got just over a tonne of sharp sand to put in there which i believe will be good for a 40mm depth? The paving slabs i've got a Bradstone Weatherdale York Brown 600mmx300mm, they're around 40mm thick.
I'm not sure if what i need to put down next, i was thinking of a mortar mix so that the paving is solid and wont be suceptible to rocking like my past patios which have been layed straight on sharp sand have in the past. Then i've seen slab lay, slab fix sort of products. I'm also unsure of howmuch i'll need.
Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.
