hi im a new member hope you can help
i asked a contractor for a price for flaging our drive & round the house.
price £1550
he tould me he would flag on top of the existing concrete drive & path he said it would be a better job & last for ever
shouldnt ? he lift the concrete or is his way right

lots to consider

exisitng levels - will you still be 150mm below dpc ?
existing base - how bad is the current concrete is it cracking if so it may continue to do so even after the new slabs are laid and then what happens? well you get movement in the finished surface.

always better to excavate import new stone compact then lay slabs.

It depends on the quality of the concrete drive already there...

If it is cracked or liable to move it needs to come out.

£1550 sounds cheap but I don't know how big the drive and patio to the side are. What is the area?

you can flag over existing concrete but £1550 sounds cheap
did he come recommeded? have you seen his work? recent work?
i would hazard a gues the cost would go up by at least a grand if he has to dig out and cart away all that cocrete
i have agreed to break out concrete paths before ,only when i started did i realise they were 9 inches of concrete on 12 inches of hardcore (old coucil houses) if the path and drive are sound they could be left if 150mm below dpc

how will he finish the drive when it is 2-3 inches higher than the
pavement?
