Large gravel courtyard - Clay soil drainage

Hi Guys,

I have recently cleared an area of flat ground approx 10 metres square. I dug it out about 20 cm, the soil was clay. I Have now covered it partly with Type 1 Hard Core, the other half is still bare clay. All I wanted was to roll hardcore then add gravel, in order to park cars on it. At the moment the bare section has water puddles on top of the clay. What kind of drainage will help, I have down pipes from my house only 6 feet away. I dnot want to roll hardcore, then add gravel if the ground wont drain or support the cars. Please help? I also have a mini digger on site should it be required.
