Hi,
I'm about to consider laying block paving in my rear yard.
Currently the yard is solid concrete (about 3m x 3m) and I'm not quite sure the best way of going about laying the paving onto this.

Would it be best to dig out the concrete (bearing in mind I have absolutely no idea how deep it is). Or should I use it as a base and lay a layer of sand (how deep?) onto as a base.

I will be occasionally parking a car on the paving as I'm soon to be removing the rear wall to use the yard as a car-port.

I'm still not too sure if block paving is the best way to go, my other thought way go for basic flagstones but I wanted something that looked a bit more attractive.

Thanks,

You could lay blocks on top but bear in mind the height will increase by 100mm! 50mm compacted sand and then 50mm for the blocks. You would also need to construct an edge to prevent lateral (sideways) movement. If you want to see how thick the concrete is try excavating alongside the slab, you should then be able to estimate the thickness.
How much ?
