Tarmac - getting quotes

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi All,

I've been reading many of the helpful replies on this site and now at the stage of requesting quotes for a contractor to lay a tarmac access road/drive.

A few facts and then a few questions :)

The area to be covered is 30m by 3m wide, widening for approx another 8m to 5m making 130m3 in total.

The drive provides foot and vehicle access. Although it would not usually be used for anything larger than a Transit sized van, emergency vehicles may need to drive along it at some point.

The surface is laid with concrete but this is in a *very* bad state. It is cracked and sunken along most of the drive. Vegetation in growing around the edges and between the cracked concrete.

Can you help me provide a spec for the above?, I have read Tony's example and the text used will form the basis of my requirement.

Can I insist on machine laying on the area described? I understand this will provide superior results to hand laying but I have no idea if this is practical or cost effective for this type of drive.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Monsoon.
