You could try Roots & Shoots in Warrington, or Cotterills at Bold Heath, as they both do college out-placements, from what I've heard. Baxter's at Aspull are a good firm to get in with, but they specialise more in soft-landscaping for commercial schemes than in hard-landscaping and construction. Bethells in Bolton do hard-landscaping for commercials and highways.
If it's more the garden design side of things you want to get into, you could try Forest Orange in Manchester.
