I would have thought a roller is superior to a wacker plate; they certainly seem to cost more.

Does a wacker plate offer any advantages over a roller (apart from it is a bit easier to get into tight corners and is easier to transport)?

If laying concrete drives is a wacker sufficient for compacting the sub-base or is it preferable to use a roller?

I only really see rollers used for tarmacadam.
