Hello!

I am currently paving one half of my back garden, the intention being to have a nice little wiggle to the edge where the lawn is. I had aquired some old house bricks which I wanted to use to edge the paving to give it some character and support. However.... a friend has now told me I can not use these because they are too absorbant and will explode if they get frosty :p

Is this true? If it is will it take a long time to explode (How big an explosion will it be!!!!??? :D :D )

Thanks to any advice, this website has been a god send as I am a slight novice!

Cheers, Jamo

the bricks will absorb water and when its cold enough for them to frost/ice, then the ice will expand and start to split, crack and break the bricks into pieces, they probably wont blow up in a massive explosion or anything :D lol. but they shouldnt be used for this type of work because they will crumble through time into pieces causing the paving to creep and move apart.
