Hi All
I am laying my slabs (this weekend) 140 varying sized multi coloured Rivens and have a couple of questions please.
Firstly I intend laying them individually on a bed of 50/50 mixed sand (sharp & pit) mixed with in a 6/1 cement mix. I have prepared the ground with compacted scalpings (0-20mm) from 30 to 90mm deep.

The bed is going to be a mortar mix as I just dont have confidence to lay them on sand, am I stupid? Is this overkill?
Anyway the mix will be a different colour to the joints. I have red pit sand for jointing and the base is yellow. Would it work to "butter" the edges of the slabs as I go along whilst laying the slabs on the other base mix? If it is, can I point and tool the joints as I go along as generally you have to wait for it to go off.

Thanks in advance
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike,

I am not an expert and I am not sure if I understood your question. But please have a read the instructions on this site, generally you would use two different mixes one for bedding and one for pointing. Since pointing happens at the end you will not see the "yellow base" mix. So I would guess that you don't have to worry about colour?

Hope this helps

Hi alex, how did you get on with laying your sand stone, or did you end up getting some one in?

Hi Ken,

Well, the flags are now down - only another couple of days for pointing I hope and it will all be finished, well the electrician has to come and do his bit. The weather is very unpredictable now - too much rain and as it says in the instructions - no pointing unless there is sunshine :-). So I am taking it easy. I think that pointing is the most difficult and backbreaking task in this industry and I can see how people get tempted to use Geofix and other products...

I had a query about pointing but it looks like no-one is interested in replying fair enough I have used the mix already it is too late to change... Pointing

I ended up taking a week off and getting a chap to help me for one week. If interested - I can post some pictures :)

Bye,

Alex
