Hi
We 2 x st bernards that have a large sloping concrete run.
We are constantly washing down the area,
What type of drain would be best to take away the smelly water.
I have tried to build my own soakaway but the soil is clay and it just stagnates and fills quickly.
any ideas welcome :)
Best wishes
Brendan

Hi Brendan,
you really need a trapped gully connected to the Foul Water system to carry away all that...ermm...effluent. A trapped gully ensures none of the smell can get back into the yard, as it were.
A standard Yard Gully or Bottle Gully will do the trick, but the exact type depends on the system you're connecting to. Modern properties (post 1985) tend to use plasticware, so it makes sense to choose a plastic (uPVC) gully fitting, but older properties are usually clayware or even salt-glaze, so you could use a clayware gully.
Just depending on the actual layout, it might be worth putting in an access chamber while you've got the yard dug up, and then connecting the new gully to that.
Alternatively, you could always get rid of the dogs! ;)
