Gravel on slabs with rubber?

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi All

I have a small yard bricked walled on all sides, in my new house which has very basic concrete slabs. It looks pretty dull so I am looking to jazz it up but cheaply.

After reading some of the forums, I understand that laying gravel directly on top of these concrete slabs is probably not a good idea ( hard on hard etc).

However I had a thought, would laying a rubber mat like this(rubber mat stuff) on top of the slabs and then laying the gravel on top of this be a good way of fixing the problem and lessening the possibility of skidding, balding and rolling stones.

Any ideas? Or anybody done anything similar?

Cheers

Steve

the rubber would need to be very very soft to make the gravel dig in, rather than roll across. But i must admit in my few years of this business, ive never heard of such a method, maybe some of the more experienced contractors have heard of such erm, methods

Thanks for the reply

I'm, as you may be able to tell by my stupid idea, a bit of a novice to this.

I don't have the money to take out the old concrete slabs, so i'm kind of stuck as to what I can do to them, or lay on top of them.

Anybody outthere got any suggestions?

Thanks

steve

im not sure on costs, but i would imagine that the cost of the rubber surface would probably be more to lay due to the area rather than moving the concrete slabs, im not sure though

shouldnt cost that much to remove old slabs etc, you can get an 8 yard skip for a little over £100 which would take a good few slabs. Thing is you allready have a subbase for the gravel, just need some terram or similar and then the gravel on top. Aslong as subbase is suitable.

If the o;d slabs are sound and the height permits then you could lay some flags on top.

Cost about £20-£25 per metre
