Fixing slate slabs to pic

I have a patterned imprinted concrete patio, with a pattern that has a fairly flatish finish (so our patio furniture doesn't wobble) . I have put in a pond that abuts a number of the patio edges and I want to fix some chineese slate stones onto the patio (with a slight overhang into the pond) to give an edging to the pond and hide the rubber liner etc. Ideally I want to secure the slabs so that whatever I fix them with adds minimal height to the slates and does not show ie If I use a mortor mix then I presume this will have to be at least 3 mm thick and has another downside of also not matching either the colour of the patio or the slates. Are their any suitable adhesives or other alternatives?

You can colour a thinset mortar, or buy a pre-coloured one (if you have more money than sense). If you want to make your own, then you will need at least 6mm of sand/cement mortar and it would be a good idea to improved this with Ronafix or SBR. Again, you can add a cement dye to colour it as you see fit, but as it will be only the jointing that is visible, there doesnt seem to be a lot of sense in colouring the bedding mortar.
