I have a driveway that when we moved in has slipped and cracked.
Due to being on a steep slope.

I`m looking to replace it. With a single car driveway.
But due to the steepness of the bank I`m not 100% on what I need to do.
So far i`m working on digging a footing, then building a retaining wall on the footing.
behind the wall i`m not sure what to do. If i should concrete a sub-base in or use hardcore. Any advice would be well recieved.

Not sure what you mean here. Can you post a picture or give more detail?

As you can see its a bit of a disaster at the moment.
Should see where the conservatory is going at the back, there is a dead dog buried under the patio thats coming up. (from previous owner).

Still not sure what you are asking?

First build the retaining wall (see main site)

Then lay drive.

Looks like you got a job and a half there.... Just think how chuffed you will be when it's done.

Do you think it would need anything extra to support the weight of the drive? The ground is very soft.

I am looking at putting the retaining wall round the 3 sides away from the footpath. Hardcore, then blinding with sand. Then laying
Porphyry cobbles on top for a nice finish.

Porphyry is a relatively fragile material and it needs to be laid on a full bed of concrete if you plan to put vehicles onto it.

Would you be recommending using concrete instead of hardcore or bedding the units in a layer of concrete?

Yes. 100mm minimum of C20/ST4 concrete.
