Hi,

I'm laying a patio for the first time, and wondered if anyone could help with a quick question. I have dug out some of the foundations, but they are no-where near level. Can I just use a compacter to level this out and to obtain the right gradient, or do I need to get this right before I get a compacter anywhere near the site? Anything you could advise would be a great help!

thanks

I always like to make my runs on the area before the subbase goes down, so there is an even spread of subbase all over the area. I dont mean i have the subgrade perfectly level, just so theres no big highs or lows, just about level. Just the way I work.

Your "foundation" (sub-base) needs to be more-or-less at the required level before you compact it.
