We have to lay a 13m x 18m slab 225mm thick with A393 mesh top and bottom with a power float finish. Need some pointers on the best type of joint. There will be fibre board against the perimeter blockwork. We will pour the slab in one as we use a multivibe. ???

225mm thick allows for a 6.75m length, so I'd suggest sub-dividing the slab into six bays measuring 6x6.5m. You should only need a crack control joint, but you ought to check this with the designer, as a slab of that size may require a dowelled movement joint.

The designer is not around anymore. Tought with a crack control joint we could cut it after te pour and fill with sealant.

If you're the contractor on this one, get a structural engineer with slab design experinece to take a look. The sub-grade and the use to which the slab will be put need to be factored-in, and it's not fair to expect a contractor to take on such a risk (unless, of course, they are a Design & Build Contractor).

The CCJs could be ample, but I'd still feel happier having it checked out by someone with the right letters after their name.
