Thanks Mark, the caculation I wanted really was what % you applied to a given area (hole) that tells you (allowing for expansion of the soil if that's the right word) as it seems to double, triple etc when out of the ground.So without taking out any you know how much there will be..

The degree of bulking-up depends on the soil type, but a clay often doubles in volume when excavated.
