Just wondering what the going rate is outside of london for general landscape staff. We dont want to pay minimum wage but dont want to go too high either. So what do you all pay for 1. Skilled or semi skilled, able to pave, fence, build walls, steps etc and 2 unskilled labouring

Thanks!

Unskilled £80 per day. Skilled £120+ per day.

You can get genuinely unskilled labourers for as little as 50 quid per day, but they will need constant supervision for even the simplest of tasks. Good "Donkeys", capable of working on their own digging off, stoning up, etc., will need carrots to the tune of around 80-90 quid per day. A semi-skilled bod capable of wall-building, fencing, a bit of flagging or block-laying and that sort of thing will command at least 100 quid per day, up to 150 quid for a really competent operative capable of supervising others.

These are the typical rates uncovered anywhere north of Northampton, west of Swindon. Scotland and Norn Iron are slightly cheaper, RoI roughly the same as England except in Euros, Dublin rates are about the same as London, again in Euros.

Labourers capable of digging, stoning, concreting etc. on their own are paid as little as £6 an hour here in Hampshire

For a young adult operative the minimum wage set by BATJIC as of June 12 2006 for an 18 year old is £7.12 an hour even for a trainee of that age is £6.84 an hour.

For those that don't know, and that's quite a lot of contractors and operatives in the residential driveway/patio business, BATJIC is the Building and Allied Trades Joint Industrial Council, a sort of advisory body for the wider construction industry.
